Stanley George Saunders Walpole

Stanley was the son of Alfred and Jane Saunders Walpole, of 17 Olive Avenue, Toronto. He was born in Stratford on Avon in England on 12 Aug. 1896, coming to St Mary’s Ontario just before 1914.
In June 1916 Stanley’s unit was in the Ypres Salient near Mount Sorrel, readying for attack. During a barrage from the enemy Stanley was killed. His body was buried in Sanctuary Wood but his grave could not be found after the war.
He is commemorated in MENIN GATE (YPRES) MEMORIAL Cemetery in Belgium

Private who died on June 13, 1916.” He was 18 years old.
