Dear Bro. Joe,
A few lines to let you know that I am recuperating fast and will soon be discharged from the hospital, as fit again for active service. I hope your family and all the boys of 828 are fine and in good health. I would like to drop in to a lodge meeting and see the brothers again, but there is no use of wishing when I can’t be there. I certainly had a narrow escape in Belgium, and it is a wonder I was not put into clear. This is the seventh hospital I have been in and I am absolutely fed up on hospitals, the word alone makes me sore. This one used to be a mansion owned by Lord Northgate. He loaned it to the Canadian Government for this purpose. There are 400 acres belonging to the estate and the grounds are beautifully kept. I will be sorry when I have to leave here, because Bromley is such a beautiful place. It is only nine miles from London and we are allowed to be out every night until 22.30. We are often invited to Teas, Parties, etc. by the big bugs, and _________all kinds of qu________ ada. There are ______the score, and _______right in my line. ___________promised to take five______ ada with me, but I don’t ________I am going to manage it, unless I marry them all. I hear we are going to be allowed to have as many wives as we like after the war.
