“he wishes to thank the Soldiers Aid Society of Rainy River, for the box of good things he received through them…” Charles Gorham circa 1917
Mrs. H. G. Gorham is in receipt of a letter from her son Ambrose, who is now Signaller with No. 1 Company of the 12th Batt, located at St Martin Plain, Shorncliffe, in which he wishes to thank the Soldiers Aid Society of Rainy River, for the box of good things he received through them, also Mrs. Flanders tobacco which he pased around as requested. Needless to say we appreciated both packages very much and after a good feed we certainly enjoyed a smoke of good old Canadian tobacco.
He says he is in the best of health and enjoying his new work, but would like to be in Rainy to have a skate on the river.
He was very successful in his first examination of signalling, receiving 80 per cent on his paper.
He also states that Pte. Harry Roberts, who had his arm broken in a ball game, is getting along nicely.
Mr. Gorham is in receipt of a letter from Corp. A. W. Rodgers, wishing all the people of Rainy River A Happy and prosperous New Year. He also received a card from Archie Richmond, in which he wished to be remembered to all his old friends in town.

Source Note from Brenda: These were printed in the Rainy River Record ( may have been called The Gazette at that time) in Ontario. When the columns were clipped out the date of publication was not included with them. Some parts of the letters are missing or the mice have been at parts of them, but I found them interesting none-the-less.
