1863 Civil War letters from the Eberlein brothers George and Ferdinand to their parents
Submitter: Skip Murray
Notes: As far as I know, the $100 would have been sent by one of 3 sons of Chritopher Eberlein – George, Ferdinand, or Edward. These 3 sons all fought in the Civil war. Edward returned to Blue Earth, Faribault Co., MN. Ferdinand died by Vicksburg, and George also died in the war. Christopher Eberlein and Katherine (Frebel) Eberlein were the parents of the 3 sons. They were from Herrenbreitungen, Hesse-Kassel, Germany. In 1863, Christopher & Katherine moved to Blue Earth, Faribault Co., MN (from Portage, Columbia Co., WI), when they inherited the farm of their son, Ferdinand Eberlein – after Ferd. died in the war. Ferdinand and Edward fought for Minnesota. George fought for Wisconsin.
