I was very aggreably surprised when I received your letter nearly three months ago, though I hope you excuse me for delaying to answer it for so long thus far I have had very little time [--] [--][--]
I have been attending school this summer and as my studys [--] [----] studying these necessarily hard for me I had to append the greater portion of my time stuyding and as I am making a hu-------banner what little time I had to spend was taken up with that. I -- -- -- finished at the -- of the --. I was obliged to work pretty hard for these marks of an -- in our teacher's warning -- -- -- we should -- --- to the -- -- that this B- ing class had -- -- I intended to -- you -- -- -- I wanted Bill and -- but I -- -- sample any.
Mary and I walked out to Cousin [Lizzie?] Chamberlins about three miles from town and found them very well.
-- will have been farming this summer, [his health?] has been very good this summer untill last -- he was quite sick for several days he is now much better

Submitted by Lorine: Although this letter does not have a state listed, I believe it is Goshen Indiana. There were several McCord and Chamberlain families listed there in the census records index. It was a difficult letter to read as the handwriting is rather loose. With some more work I believe I could decipher most of the letter. I own the original and will be offering it for auction on EBay in the future. If you recognize this family, please write to me as it would be great to know more about Alice and her cousin Charles.
